MORE THAN SKIN DIET: THE LATEST SCIENCE ON SKIN HEALTH AND AGING

Your skin plays many important functions for your overall health. Your skin acts as a barrier between your body and the outside world. It also makes vitamin D, protects you from harm, and helps you to interact with your environment. There are many factors that influence how your skin performs its function, including:

  • Your Skin Climate is partially governed by your genetic makeup
  • Your lifestyle and diet are important environmental factors.
  • Your exposure to:

– Pollution/environmental toxins

– UV radiation from the sun

Many of the factors that adversely impact the skin’s function either increase the level of toxins in your body or make it difficult to eliminate them via your internal detoxifying system. These factors can not only cause signs of skin aging such as thinning, wrinkles, dryness, and discoloration but also negatively impact the way your body functions. They can either cause or contribute to the progression of metabolic syndrome and other age-related diseases such as arthritis, type 2 diabetes and AD. These conditions can all reduce your longevity.

Your body strives to maintain balance and stability. By stimulating your antioxidant enzymes, detox, and healthy cell survival mechanisms, mild, short-term stress can improve skin health, longevity, and overall skin health. Here are some examples of mild stressors:

  • Calorie restriction
  • Moderate exercise
  • Pleasing and thrilling life events

Excessive, long-term stress from various factors can lead to the opposite effect. Balance is essential for your body to function properly. Balance is also important in the following:

  • Consumption of Omega-3/6 fatty acids
  • Fluid intake and electrolyte
  • Gut microbiome composition

It is all about maintaining a healthy balance for your skin and longevity.

You can restore balance by selecting the right foods and supplements if it is being disturbed by too many factors.
